Abstract

Document content

The Ucayali Ombudsman's Office of the Defensoría del Pueblo (Peruvian Ombudsman's Office), through Letter N° 0003-2026-DP/OD-UCAY dated January 26, 2026, ratified the findings of its field verification of December 22, 2025, to the Native Community of Santa Clara de Uchunya, observing a defined organizational structure, significant progress in community development, and conflict-free coexistence, with no evidence of conflict with neighbors or the surrounding environment. On that same December 22, 2025, the Community held an Extraordinary General Assembly —notarially certified— in which it formally agreed by majority to request that the Ombudsman's Office issue a categorical statement denying the claims and allegations made by third parties that characterize the company Ocho Sur as an aggressor against the Community. As background, on September 26, 2023, during the first visit by the Ombudsman of Peru to a Native Community in the Peruvian Amazon —also notarially certified— the Community had declared living in peace, harmony, and tranquility, and had expressed its rejection of the characterizations made by third parties about its situation.
